Eyelash perming

What is it?

Eyelash perming is a treatment that curls the lashes to enhance the eye shape.

Why get it done?

It 'opens' the eyes and makes them seem bigger. Some people think curly eyelashes are more attractive than straight ones.

What's the procedure?

Your lashes are curled around a wooden rod and are kept in place with sticky material on the rod or, in some cases, special glue. An eyelash perm lotion is then applied to the lashes, and covered with cotton wool for 10 minutes. Next, neutraliser is applied and left for 10 minutes. The application is removed using warm water and cotton pads.

How does it work?

The same way as a hair perm. The perming lotion is more or less the same, but in a lighter concentration and less harmful.

How long does it take?

The entire treatment, including consultation, takes one hour.

How often should people get it done?

Once every two to three months.

Does it hurt?

Generally, no. But sometimes people feel a little discomfort when the solution is being removed because of the glue.

Will my eyes feel sticky or dry afterwards?

Not unless you have sensitive skin around your eyes, in which case you may feel a little dryness. Your therapist should do a consultation with you first to determine these things.

Do people get a shock when they see it?

They're always happy with the results because it makes a big difference to appearance.

Are there different degrees of curliness?

Yes, it depends on what you want. Some people want extra curly lashes, which means using a smaller rod. The lashes won't be any longer, but it'll make your eyes look bigger and brighter.

Do you need to wear mascara afterwards?

No, although some people prefer to because it makes the lashes thicker.

Can I have them tinted the same day?

Tinting is best done before perming - but definitely not on the same day because it doubles the chemicals. There'll still be chemicals left on the lashes after tinting.

Where can I get it done?

Most beauty salons.

How much will it cost?

$380 at the Frederique Spa, 4/F, Wilson House, 19-27 Wyndham St, Central. Inquiries: 2522 3054
