Arts reporting? It's in the works

You have to give RTHK credit for at least trying to provide some arts coverage on television even if their timeslot is terrible and the show not particularly in-depth. A new season of The Works starts tonight (7pm, TVB Pearl) with returning hosts Lorea Solabarrieta and Ben Pelletier.

To promote their show, they organised a small concert at Pacific Place on Sunday.

Although his co-host has changed several times, Pelletier (above) is the constant. As a musician - as well as host of music shows on Radio 4 - Pelletier is well-enough versed to articulate about Hong Kong arts.

'Having just come back from trips to Boston and New York, I would say we're certainly not as high up on arts coverage as those cities ... I find it amazing that The Works is the only free-to-air regular arts and culture TV programme in Hong Kong. There is a lot going on and to try to cover that in a half-hour magazine format is a tall order.'

Speaking of goings-on, in addition to his broadcasting duties, Pelletier is playing his trombone in the orchestra of Alan Tam Wing-lun's series of concerts now on at the Coliseum. 'Oh, there are lots of stories but I can't tell them to you.' What, you're saving them for your own show?
