CityU chemistry graduate to work with Nobel Prize winner
A PhD graduate from City University has won the opportunity to work with a Nobel Prize winner after being awarded a prestigious fellowship.
Chow Cheuk-fai, who received his PhD in inorganic chemistry this year, will carry out postdoctoral research in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) - a common medical scan for checkups - at the University of Louis Pasteur at Strasbourg in France.
Dr Chow will be working with Professor Jean Marie Lehn, a 1987 Nobel Prize chemistry winner for his contribution on unlocking secrets of mechanism in how molecules recognise and fit into one another.
Dr Chow was awarded a fellowship from the Croucher Foundation, a private endowment founded by the late Noel Croucher which has been giving scholarships to support science research since 1979.
He received his Bachelor's degree with first-class honours in Chemistry at CityU in 2000.
Speaking at the first welcoming ceremony of the CityU orientation for freshmen, Dr Chow said one of his ambitions was to win a Nobel Prize himself.
'If you work hard, your talent will be recognised,' he encouraged the freshmen.
