80pc of new HIV cases sexually transmitted
Almost 80 per cent of HIV cases detected in the second quarter of the year were sexually transmitted, prompting the government to launch a publicity campaign to promote the use of condoms, a spokesman for the health department said. An earlier survey found only 24 per cent of Hong Kong men consistently used condoms. Condoms will be distributed by universities, doctors and some government departments as part of the campaign to improve accessibility.
Snowy moon cakes riskier than others
Snowy moon cakes tend to pose a higher risk of food poisoning than normal moon cakes because they were not baked, the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department warned. It said snowy and ice cream moon cakes that have been kept at room temperature for more than two hours should be thrown out.

A 38-year-old policeman was in Prince of Wales Hospital in a serious condition last night after he and a colleague, who was discharged after treatment, were injured when their police vehicle crashed while negotiating a bend in Tai Po.
Skull found on beach
The remains of a human skull were found by a restaurant worker on Castle Peak Beach in Tuen Mun. Initial investigations indicated there were no suspicious circumstances.
