Updated at 6.53pm:
The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Health Department on Wednesday confirmed an imported case of dengue fever and urged people to guard against the disease.

A spokesman said the victim was a 62-year-old man living in Kwai Chung. He fell ill on August 28 and had developed symptoms of fever and diarrhoea.

The man is now in a stable condition in Yan Chai Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital last Thursday.

The spokesman revealed that the man had travelled to Indonesia between August 21 and 27.

He urged people to be alert to the threat of dengue fever and help reduce mosquitoes breeding.

Dengue fever is causing health experts in Asia considerable concern. A number of people in southeast Asia have died from the disease commonly spread by mosquitoes.
