Cheung Moon-tong

HAPLESS Hong Kong amateur Cheung Moon-tong wrote his name into the record books yesterday by taking 18 shots at one hole.

Part-time Fanling caddie Cheung lost six balls in the process of negotiating the 385-yard, par-four fourth hole at Clear Water Bay Golf and Country Club.

In driving rain, Cheung struck four successive tee shots into the ravine in front of him. Playing nine off the tee, he shanked his next effort into the fence on the right. His 10th shot disappeared into the ravine.

He got over the hazard with his 12th shot . . . only to find water. After a penalty drop, he missed the green with his 14th shot and needed four more to hole out.

Cheung finished on 97, the equal worst of the day.
