Hill headed for Singapore?

Breaking with the recent tradition of retired or exiled Hong Kong trainers starting up new careers in Macau, former joint championship winner David Hill (pictured) has headed farther afield. Eighteen months ago, this column foreshadowed the possibility of a then-unnamed expatriate trainer heading to another Asian centre.

With two strikes under the performance criteria gone and a third looking likely, the scuttlebutt then was that Hill had inquired about a licence in Singapore if he failed to make the cut.

In that season, he did eventually make his quota and continued at Sha Tin for one more year, but it seems the spies might have been on the right track.

There has been no official announcement from the Singapore Turf Club, but the word on the grapevine is that Hill will be training at Kranji in the near future.
