Don't let school bullying go unpunished

Although more attention has been paid to school bullying, it still takes place in schools across the world. There are many incidents that are not made public because the victims are scared.

Some principals keep incidents a secret because they are worried it will damage the school's reputation.

I think students and principals should not try to hide such incidents because it will only make the bullies more bold.

TSANG KAM-YEE

Thanks for your letter, Kam-yee. It has been a while since we've discussed bullying on this page. Since it is a new school year, it is a good time to think about this issue and take a firm line - bullying will not be tolerated.

If you have seen a case of bullying at your school, don't ignore it and let the bully get away with it. Report the case to a teacher.

And don't forget that bullying can be either physical, such as hitting someone, or else verbal abuse, such as saying mean things to someone. Neither is acceptable.
