The lady, boys, is a vamp
Visitors to Post 97 could be forgiven for thinking they've stepped into a Bangkok show tonight, as ladyboy extraordinaire Trixie La Bon Bon presents her cabaret revue.
As part of a series of cabaret/dinner evenings by different performers, La Bon Bon will be singing songs by the likes of Liza Minnelli, Shirley Bassey and Barbra Streisand.
'I perform the most marvellous songs from the world's best-known divas,' says La Bon Bon, who is a regular at Simon Cabaret in Phuket. 'They're my idols - and there's no business like show business.'
The cabaret show includes a three-course meal and a glass of champagne.
La Bon Bon, who says she's been performing 'since I was in frilly diapers', originally wanted to be a ballet dancer, but turned to singing because her body wasn't built for ballet. She's been inspired by soulful singers such as Bassey and Eartha Kitt.
But although she's looking forward to entertaining the Post 97 crowd, La Bon Bon says she can't wait to hit the shops. 'I love Hong Kong,' she says. 'There are so many beautiful people and so many Louis Vuitton handbags. I love all the tai-tais, too. I'll be looking for some new frocks and a few glittery things to wear in my show while I'm here.'
La Bon Bon says she's performed all over the world for a variety of rich and famous clients, but apart from admitting to entertaining 'several of those naughty European princes', she's keeping their identities close to her cosmetically enhanced chest.
Nevertheless, she says audiences have been known to get a little carried away during her shows. 'There have been a few fabulous moments,' she says. 'Like the time a Hong Kong tycoon came on stage with me. I thought he was handsome, so I decided to involve him in the show. But he got rather carried away and I think he discovered his penchant for ladyboys.
'His wife filed for divorce the next day. The other stories are too naughty to tell.'
