It's loud and noisy and if you lived next to them you would be complaining to the police. However, on the Lyric Theatre's stage, it's applause and acclaim. The eight-men Stomp band opened on Tuesday night with a sold-out crowd including singer Lui Fong, model Kathy Chow Man-kei and TV personality Dodo Cheng Yu-ling.

We admit the show remains a magnificent display of energy and choreographed movement, but we concur with one viewer who said: 'I want to keep these people on stage. There is no way I could stand my neighbours smacking saucepans and slamming toilet covers like they do.'

As SCMP employees though, what we found most intriguing was Stomp's resourceful use of our newspaper. Besides garbage bins and plastic buckets, they took some pages - specifically our City section - and scrunched, tore and crumpled it for crispy sound effects.
