Three men have been convicted in the High Court of robbing a pair of lovers at Wan Chai's Expo Promenade on Chinese Valentine's Day.

Chau Kin-shing, 24, Lam Wai-keung, 17, and Lin Hui-sheng, 20, pleaded guilty yesterday to a joint count of robbing Lam Yan-kit and Chan Oi-sum of $40,550 in cash, a digital camera, a mobile phone, an HSBC bank card, an HSBC credit card and a Hang Seng Bank Mastercard on February 24.

The court heard yesterday that Lam Yan-kit and Ms Chan had gone to the Expo Promenade for a chat after dinner on Chinese Valentine's Day. The couple stayed there until the early hours of the morning.

About 4am, the three men suddenly appeared and confronted the lovers. One of the robbers grabbed Ms Chan from behind and pointed a stick-like object at her right wrist. Another was seen wielding a 7cm-long round object.

They were ordered to kneel, keep silent and take out all their possessions, including cash, wallets, bank cards and their PIN codes.

Deputy Judge Esther Toh Lye-ping adjourned the case until September 29 for sentencing.
