Whitening agents used by dentists differ, but 5,000 people have received the BriteSmile treatment (15 per cent hydrogen peroxide) in Hong Kong since 2001 - and the figures are rising, according to Kenny Yue from supplier TWL.

Blue-light treatment: $4,000-$6,500

Home treatment: $5,000-$6,000

Porcelain veneer: $4,500-$6,000
