Where? Located on the Avinguda Diagonal, one of Barcelona's most famous shopping strips. The area also boasts international chains, designer shops and modern department stores.
The vibe: opened in 2002, Jean-Pierre Bua is a leader in avant-garde fashion in Spain. The two-storey boutique is decked out in a minimalist style and features huge mirrors, tinted glass, leather seats and a sparse display of merchandise. The store sells the latest collections from top brands and has shrines dedicated to leading designers. Although the store is high-end, the staff are laid-back and welcome customers wanting to browse.
Fashion finds: the men's floor (below right) features labels such as Dries Van Noten, Dolce & Gabbana, Jean Paul Gaultier, John Galliano, Martin Margiela, Rick Owens, Marni, Miu Miu and Alexander McQueen. The ladies' floor (above right) offers similar brands along with Matthew Williamson, Issey Miyake and Adam Jones. There is also a new accessories department stocking handbags and shoes.
The crowd: the hip and fashionable of Barcelona know the store well and you can often find TV hosts, football players and film stars browsing the shelves.
Extras: the boutique is a pioneer; it was the first store in Barcelona to offer the world's leading brands under one roof. There is a large stock of Jean Paul Gaultier since owner Jean Pierre Bua and the designer are close friends. It is also the place to go when looking for stylish, modern bridal wear.
