Activists in Hong Kong yesterday protested outside the Japanese Consulate in Central to mark the 74th anniversary of Japan's invasion of the mainland.

About 20 activists demanded that Japan admit the facts of the invasion and withdraw its bid for a permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council.

During the protest, slogans such as 'Never forget September 18' were chanted. Other demands included the withdrawal of Japan from the disputed Diaoyu Islands.

Or Wah, chairman of the Action Committee for Defending the Diaoyu Islands, said: 'We still remember the history and are alert that Japanese militarism will return one day.'

Leung Hon-wa, chairman of the China Youth Service and Recreation Centre, said Japan had failed to admit its mistakes.
