A testing time for Disneyland

Is Hong Kong Disneyland a really magical place?

Thousands of people visited the park on its charity day. Most of them complained about the long queues for rides and at restaurants. They also said the meals were too costly and that the area was not big enough.

But they had positive things to say about the park's attractions, such as  Tomorrowland, Fantasyland,  Space Mountain and the Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.

I think  people's expectations of Hong Kong Disneyland are too high.

It is not as big as the Disneylands in the US, Japan and France, and the rides may not be as exciting. Will this affect its popularity?

Only time will tell.

Eliminate racism to ensure peace

Hurricane Katrina killed hundreds of people and caused extensive damage in the southern United States. New Orleans was one of the worst affected cities.

The majority of the people who were left homeless and starving there came from poor black families.

This has led to critics accusing the Bush administration of racism because help arrived after much of the damage had already been done.

I believe people should not be labelled by their skin colour.

Every race has its good and bad people. The laws are there to ensure justice. Good people will be praised while bad people will be punished.

Now is the time to break down racial barriers and build a peaceful world.

A healthy future

A recent survey has revealed that many girls in Hong Kong reach puberty early. Some are only eight years old.

This trend may be due to their nutrition-rich diet.  If children grow up so fast, will they get married before 18? This could cause many social problems.

I think we should pay more attention to the next generation.  Health is more important than anything else.

Soothing sounds

Do you like listening to music? What types of music do you like?

Music may have different effects on us - it can make us happy or sad.

When you feel sad or tired, you can listen to some soft music. It can help you to calm down and relax. Some people say music can cure psychological problems.

Pop music is my favourite. I don't know why but perhaps it is because I started listening to pop music at an early age.

Every day after I go home, I turn on my computer and listen to my favourite songs.

Label mooncakes

The Mid-Autumn Festival is mostly about mooncakes and lanterns.

Many health-conscious consumers choose to buy low-fat mooncakes.

But there are no nutrition labels  on most mooncake boxes, which can lead to health problems among people suffering from chronic diseases, especially diabetes.

Mooncakes contain egg yolks, which have a high cholesterol level, as well as other ingredients which contain a lot of sugar.

As a result, it is important for mooncake manufacturers to label their products.

Consumers have the right to buy healthy mooncakes - with less fat and sugar - for their families.

Control stray dogs

The number of  stray dogs keeps  increasing. The main reason is that people do not care about their dogs.

Some dog owners talk on the  phone while walking their dogs. They do not pay attention to their dogs, and as a result,  the  dogs get lost or go astray.

Some people  buy cute puppies without careful consideration and abandon them in the street when they grow up and are no longer cute.

Stray dogs give birth to puppies, and as a result there are more and more stray dogs. This is a serious problem.

Public issue

The  Hong Kong Disneyland has been in the news almost daily since it opened on September 12.

The government spent some $22 billion of taxpayers' money to build the theme park.

The project has received bad publicity from the beginning, with green groups targeting Disney for its environmental blunders.

I hope all the problems will be solved soon and people will be happy to have an entertainment giant on their doorstep.
