Search for new executive attracts little interest

Recruitment for a new Hospital Authority chief executive has drawn a poor response.

It is understood that the two or three candidates who have applied came from within the authority, including the chief executive of the New Territories East cluster, Fong Hong. Response to a global search conducted by a headhunter has also been 'close to zero'. The recruitment drive, which began in mid-August, closes today.

'The post seems to be not very attractive. Some private doctors can make more than $1 million a month,' a senior source from the authority said.

But an authority board member said one problem was that the recruitment advertisement stated the candidate should have 'proficiency in Cantonese and English'.

'That means an expatriate who doesn't know Cantonese can't apply,' the member said.

Dr Vivian Wong Taam Chi-woon is the temporary chief executive.
