Elements of elegance a la France

What to expect in Ozwald Boateng's second collection (fall/winter 2005):

Theme French elegance for the modern man

Style Understated, alluring and confident

Palette Grey, burgundy, beige and petrol blue

Key fabrics Velvet, wool and cashmere

Elements Polka dots, the Givenchy tulip, black and white houndstooth check, herringbone design, double collars on classic winter coats

Silhouettes

Hooded coats of thick grey or burgundy/beige tweed wool layered over long, hooded cashmere cardigans in grey or burgundy.

Bomber jackets in quilted leather, thick cotton and even pinstripe wool.

Boxy Spencer jackets in black velvet or burgundy/beige tweed.

Luxurious leather car coats finished with double collars and cuffs in black wool knit.

Crisp white poplin shirts with subtle stripes and a band of velvet ribbon down the front, standing in for a more formal tie.

Cashmere knits in the season's key colours, featuring tone-on-tone pockets and stripes.

Two-pleat wool trousers sitting low on the waist.

Velvet bands sewn on the waist mimicking Givenchy's buckle-free belt.

'The polka dot was one of Hubert de Givenchy's favourite motifs and I've used it in all my Givenchy collections so far - discreetly in the suit linings and, more visibly, on shirts, ties and knits,' Boateng says.
