Fancy some ref justice?

Blow hot or blow cold, Hong Kong's referees are ready for what is warming up to be the most exciting season for many years.

A heavy recruitment campaign has brought in new members such as Clifton Leung and Gabriel Lee Wing-yi, while Tobi Lothian, Steve Foley, Erik Bossan, Ian Hampton and Willy Chan Kai-tai are some of the referees who will be called upon to produce the goods in the higher divisions.

'The Hong Kong Society of Rugby Football Union Referees is a hive of activity. With the semi-retirement of international referee Billy Mason and the transfer of a couple of other members, opportunity for advancement within the referee ranks is now better than ever,' said society president Doug Shearer.

'Numbers are growing within the society's ranks,' says Hong Kong international referee Blair Collier. 'With the addition of a development academy to identify and fast-track potential referee talent, choosing a career as a rugby referee has never been more attractive. They also have the added incentive of having the best seat in the house.'

The recent end of the first course for 'club' touch judges added a further 30 officials to the society's coffers. These new recruits will be able to run as qualified touch judges within their clubs, adding a talent pool from which new referees will be recruited.
