Hand of fate in fickle market
Recent volatility in the Hong Kong stock market may take its toll on the investment environment, according to the Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury Frederick Ma Si-hang.
At the opening ceremony of the Financial World Expo yesterday, Mr Ma attributed the latest volatility to interest rate uncertainties and external economic factors.
'This is only natural and I don't think the volatility will push the market into a big adjustment, though we will be paying close attention to changes in external economic factors.'
Mr Ma said Hong Kong still enjoyed sound economic fundamentals and stressed that there was a need to raise the level of investor education.
