Williams takes second race of series

The AVOHK 5K Series finally got underway yesterday when the second race of the series was staged in perfect conditions at Tai Tam Country Park, where Mark Williams led from the front for a comfortable victory in the men's event.

The opening event of the popular series was scheduled to be staged at Wan Chai Gap three weeks ago, but had to be postponed because of an incoming typhoon and thunderstorms.

Yesterday's event was set over a challenging course in Tai Tam Country Park, where Williams led the 250 competitors to a speedy finishing time of 17 minutes and 32 seconds for a one-minute victory over Choi Tat-ming and Luke Wimbush, both of who recorded identical times of 18:32, with Choi being given the nod for second.

Veteran runner Leung Yuen-yee won the women's race in 24:21, just 12 seconds ahead of a fast closing Isobel Barry in second place with a time of 24:33.

Florence Chau placed third with a time of 24:35.
