A Friday night trip to Shenzhen wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea, but for me it meant a chance to party with DJ Danny Howells - ranked No20 in the world on the DJ Mag list.

After work I headed straight over the border and arrived at Shenzhen's Century Plaza Hotel in time for dinner. Then it was time for a soundcheck, and I was given a tour of the hotel's magnificent double club: Class 1 and 2.

Class 1 is the larger, with spacious sofa areas, small VIP rooms and an LED display covering one wall.

Class 2 is cosier, rocking the R&B crowd all night long. Above are the karaoke rooms, each with its own LCD screen and bathroom. The largest room is bigger than Hong Kong's Drop.

By 11pm, the various floors of Class were full of beautiful people. Howells had the crowd in the palm of his hand all night and took them on a rocking journey that lasted until 5am - no drama for a man known for his 10-hour sets in New York.

Club nights at Class have always been good, but Howells' passion and his music that night made it one of the best for me.
