Such a tart remark by critic of art

THE world of art offers refuge to all sorts. So at yesterday's preview of Art Asia there was this couple doing the rounds of the stands.

To any layman, it was instantly obvious that he was well-seasoned in the art gallery scene, while she was an innocent abroad on the subject.

As they strolled around, he was giving her a cultured rundown of the great works, pointing out a Picasso here . . . a Renoir there . . . until their meanderings brought them to a work by Jackson Pollock.

''What about this?'' she asked, peering at the painting and fiddling with her catalogue at the same time. ''Oh, Pollock's,'' he responded with an air of disdain.

Taken aback, she countered: ''That's a bit unkind. It's not that bad.'' We promise this incident is true. If not, pray God Keeping Posted be struck down by a bolt of lightn . . . aaaaargh.
