HONG Kong will lose the 1997 Rugby World Cup Sevens unless local organisers can guarantee a totally ''clean'' stadium.
Marcel Martin, director of tournament organisers Rugby World Cup Limited, said a contingency plan would be prepared to shift the event to another country if the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union were unable to meet this basic requirement.
He said he was aware of the recent dispute between the Union and Hong Kong Stadium managers Wembley International over the use of executive suites and other aspects relating to next year's Hong Kong Sevens.
Wembley have put the 50 suites at the 40,000-seater stadium on public sale and have refused to free them for the Sevens on March 26-27 next year.
But Frenchman Martin, who left last night after a two-day stay in the territory, said it would be up to the Union to negotiate with Wembley.
He said one of the preconditions for a host Union is to deliver a clean stadium where the organisers have total control without outside interference.
