Just the thing for Ever

EVER THE BEST (Nap) should be that much fitter for his opening run of the season and looks to have been found an ideal opportunity by trainer John Moore in today's fourth event.

The five-year-old appears to have improved significantly from last season when troubled by that dreaded flu virus.

He has been working really well this campaign and ran much better than his finishing position suggests last time out behind Chiu Chow Warrior over this afternoon's course and distance.

The key to his chance today is that, last time out, he was drawn on the outside of his field in barrier 14. He is drawn much better now and jockey Johnny Marshall will not have to use him up so much in the early stages.

He is also that much fitter. It is uncanny how much a horse improves for that one run. It really does clean the old pipes out.

My best quinella is in the day's second event, where a combination of Devon's Treasure, Jet Speed and Figure It Out will be hard to deny.

Devon's Treasure is getting fitter all the time while Jet Speed had better form than most of these rivals when at his best last season.

Figure It Out should benefit from the extra distance and is a potential improver.
