Hong Kong driver Ross Jamison is hoping he doesn't have to put the brakes on his car-racing career. Last Friday, a potential multi-year, multimillion-dollar deal suddenly fell through for the 15-year-old King George V pupil who has been achieving outstanding results on test drives, meaning he could not join the China Formula Renault Challenge series on Shanghai's Formula One circuit.

Now he needs financial support to speed his career towards Formula One.

'The potential company's financial performance this year was below their expectation so they decided to not be so philanthropic and help this young talent,' says Tim Pierson-Smith, sponsor co-ordinator for Jamison. 'Ross is Hong Kong's most likely chance to have a top racer. He's proved he can master the car and it would be so sad to lose this year.'

Jamison needs about $1 million to move up to the 220 km/h open-wheel Formula-One-type cars. Otherwise he has to revert to racing carts this year. Plus, the season starts in March, so time is of the essence.
