Call the shots in sales for a telecoms firm

An opportunity to head a growing team in the telecommunications business awaits a person good at identifying and closing business with finesse.

An emerging telecoms firm, Arkadin, is looking for a sales manager for its Hong Kong office.

The company manufactures a conferencing product that multinational corporations use to connect with customers around the world.

Arkadin occupies a niche market as it tailors its conferencing product for corporations seeking specific communication solutions.

The mandate for the selected candidate includes generating business, overseeing global accounts and leading a team of salespeople.

The person should be able to capitalise on the strong relationships the firm has developed with decision-makers in the region.

Lachlan Sloan, chief executive of Talent2, said: 'This is a recruiter's dream. Our client is looking for a certain personality type rather than specific work experience. This is a great job for someone who is looking to change industry or move into a more challenging role.'

A good track record in managing and leading people is an important requirement. Beyond that, it will be up to the applicants to convince the company about their suitability.

The company is looking for a results-oriented achiever who can articulate a business proposition, and confidently engage with people in social and business settings.

The person should also be able to inspire colleagues to do more.

'The company is not selling an overly complex product. You are not selling rockets to Nasa. The job is more about maintaining relationships. You are expected to have the ability to build rapport and credibility by delivering what you promise,' Mr Sloan said.

The successful candidate will oversee a team of six people.

Mr Sloan said the job would suit those who liked to 'run with the big boys' and were ready to be judged by their results.

He said an aspiring candidate who did not have a high educational background could still get selected if the person was a motivated go-getter, and was strong in sales.

'Of course, we want someone who has a good track record in sales. We will even consider applicants from an irrelevant industry as long as they are the best at what they are doing.'

He said fluency in Chinese was not a necessity because English was the language of international business.

Mr Sloan said the true salespeople would not just send him their resumes. 'They would phone me and sell themselves.'
