Unlike hacks in our office, journalists at the China Daily have a refined news sense. Time and again, the paper has come up with such intriguing gems as this recent reporting classic, spotted by a Post colleague.

It's headlined 'Dog drives cat up tree after fight' and deserves to be quoted in full:

'A German shepherd dog chased a cat up to a tree in Changzhou , Jiangsu Province , on Wednesday, attracting many onlookers on the street.

'According to the dog's owner surnamed Li, the fight was caused when the dog, named Princess, woke up to find a cat eating its breakfast. Hearing the dog's warning barks, the cat overturned the bowl, which angered Princess further.

'The cat ran away and climbed a tree and the dog, unable to follow the cat, sat waiting under the tree.

'The cat was finally able to get down safely after nearly three hours when Li pulled his dog away.'

Pulitzer prize, anyone?
