Choosing Form Four courses

Peter, have you handed in your Form Four course selection form?

Not yet. I'm torn between arts and science.

I can't see you studying arts.

I think you should go for science. You have always been good at maths and chemistry.

But you know I love Chinese history and literature!

Maybe you can study the two Chinese subjects on your own.

I could, but I'm afraid I would be pressed for time.

Don't worry, I'm sure you'll do well.

Language points

1. torn between

When someone is torn between two things they have difficulty deciding which one to choose.

Eg: Jenny was torn between going to the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University.

2. go for

When you go for something, you make an effort to achieve it.

Eg: We must go for our dreams.

3. pressed for time

When you are pressed for time, you do not have enough time to do everything you want.

Eg: I'm going to be pressed for time tomorrow as I have three projects to finish and a Sports Club meeting to go to.
