The School of International Hotel and Tourism has only nine places available for Hong Kong applicants for its August intake and 15 places for its intake in January 2007.

The school will conduct first-round interviews during the expo, and competition is expected to be tough.

Tracy Chan, a representative for the school, offers the following advice to help you stand out from the competition:

Be enthusiastic and passionate about the hospitality industry.

Be committed to a career in the industry.

An understanding of the industry will be helpful and experience in the field will be advantageous, although this is not a prerequisite.

Be friendly, polite and outgoing.

Be outspoken and confident in explaining to the interviewing professor your defining characteristics, skills and experience.

Bring a copy of your school certificate and any other relevant documents or certificates.

It is important to have a culturally open perspective because the school has students of up to 20 nationalities studying at any one time.

Have a clear career plan and goals mapped out in preparation for the on-site interview.
