Be a volunteer and lead a meaningful life

You can make your life more beautiful by taking part in an extra-curricular activity.

It helps to improve your communication skills and gives you a chance to meet people from different backgrounds.

I joined a volunteer organisation five years ago and it has changed my life. I have gained valuable experience by organising activities - something that textbooks don't teach.

Young people should join activities that will help them lead a better life. It is much better than shopping or singing karaoke. I plan to stay with the organisation and continue to serve society.

Thanks for your letter, Ka-yan. I am happy to hear that you have got so much out of your experience as a volunteer.

School can give us a great education, but there are some things we can't learn in the classroom and voluntary work helps bridge the gap.

It gives you the opportunity to meet people outside your usual network. And what's more, it's usually very practical, physical work, which is very different from what you do at school - and again a good experience. All this makes voluntary work a good transitional step between school and the outside world.
