Scintillating form - Hats off to Aitken

Murray Bell

Followers of chief racing writer Alan Aitken enjoyed a monster day at the races on Sunday, with the renowned analyst form judge correctly finding six winners on top - including the $693 treble on the last three races.

Aitken's front page tipping features have been almost gild-edged in recent weeks and so it proved once again, with Super Kid bravely holding on to his lead to defeat Bullish Luck in the Group One Hong Kong Gold Cup.

The John Moore-trained Super Kid paid $91 for the win, while the quinella with racing editor Murray's Bell's selection Bullish Luck paid $165.

Aitken's winning run began with Dream Horse ($16) in the second event - a kick start he shared with all other members of the panel. But he then went up a gear, tipping Scintillation ($42) to defeat champion Silent Witness in the Centenary Sprint Cup and was on a roll.

Wise Lover ($31 favourite) was the thick end of an Aitken quinella, trio and tierce in the fourth, and had Smart Fellow not survived the photo for third, it wouldn't have mattered for the Aitken fans as he had fourth horse Crusader Of Gold as well. It also meant he provided five of the six horses required to win the first Double Trio.

Later in the programme, Aitken hit his straps again. His best bet Supreme Gains (pictured) arrived as a heavily backed $22.50 favourite in race nine, ahead of the number two quinella pick Winning Reward.

Aitken completed a great day of accurate predictions when Fuji Sunrise ($48) stormed down the centre of the track to take the final event, ahead of Greenessy, providing his third quinella result for the afternoon at $171.50.

Aitken's big day clawed back two wins off Mark Richards' lead on the straight bets tipping competition. He's already on top in the Quinella poll, albeit narrowly from John Bell, and a mile in front on the Trio tipping table, where his followers are in profit to the tune of $6,131 on a $10 unit.
