Demi mak disqualified over score

Pre-tournament favourite Demi Mak Jun-wi was sensationally disqualified from the Helene et Henri Ladies' Close Amateur Championship of Hong Kong as her twin sister Ginger Jun-ki put one hand on the trophy with a steady 78 to open up a nine-shot lead going into today's final round.

Ginger, 15, who fired an impressive 72 on day one, had two back-nine birdies to finish on a total of eight-over-par 150 over the New Course at Hong Kong Golf Club. She was nine shots clear of second-placed Raniasih Pomareda, who carded a 79. Eleana Collins was a further five strokes adrift in third.

Demi, who has enjoyed an excellent run of results on the Asian amateur circuit of late, including wins in Macau and Malaysia at the back end of last year, was disqualified after signing for an incorrect score following Wednesday's first round. Tournament director Candi Anna Chan said: 'Demi signed for a bogey six on the 10th hole when she scored a seven. This is a breach of rule 6-6 and the penalty is disqualification.'
