New Chinese magazine targets family
THE Paramount Printing Group is targeting the family in its latest Chinese-language weekly magazine, Sunday Weekly, to be launched on December 12.
Car Plus, a Chinese-language monthly motor-sport magazine, will be launched at the same time.
Chief executive officer Albert Cheng said: ''Our group is most optimistic for the development potential of the local market for consumer publications.'' He said prior to June 1989 there were some 10 Chinese tabloid weekly magazines in wide circulation, selling about half a million copies each week.
''Subsequently, many of these magazines diminished. Many of them were published by small groups who could not withstand competition,'' he said.
Now there were four weekly magazines in circulation, he said.
Mr Cheng believes the market for weekly publication is large, noting there is demand for weekly tabloid magazines for women who have few choices available to them.
