What drives it? A 78-brake-horsepowered, 1,497cc, four-cylinder, 16-valve VVT-i petrol engine and a 50-kilowatt, 68bhp electric motor, with a front-wheel- drive, electronic CVT transmission and discs on 16-inch wheels.

How fast is it? Enough to get you a ticket, with 0-100km/h sprint in 10.9 seconds; tops at 170km/h.

How safe is it? Eight SRS dual-stage airbags and a whiplash-lessening device, seat-belt pre-tensioners and force-control in the front seats, plus anti-lock braking system, electric brake-force distribution and brake assist.

How thirsty is it? The best, at 5.0-5.6 litres per 100km.

Nice touches: The way the brakes regenerate the battery going downhill. The very readable speedometer reduces the glance angle from the dashboard to the road. Road visibility is excellent. The Prius is ideal for Hong Kong.
