OVER the past six months, the castle market in Scotland has started to come alive.

With their architecture and historic interest, the castles present a wonderful chance to live in a rare property with special character.

Prices are dependent on the condition and historical significance of the castles, but they can vary from GBP50,000 (about HK$573,000) for a semi-ruin to well over GBP750,000 for a well-known castle which has been converted to a high standard.

Over the past two years, only a small number of castles have been sold and prices have eased from the peak of a few years ago, making it possible to acquire a castle of great historic interest for a reasonably modest price.
