Tales of growing up

A book of short stories for teenagers will be launched on Monday to raise funds for deprived children in Hong Kong.

Thomas Beckham Wang and Other Stories, published by Chameleon Press, is set in Hong Kong, mainland China, India and Vietnam. The stories are about the joys and pains of growing up.

Authors include renowned Hong Kong-based writers Nury Vittachi (aka Sam Jam) and Ellen McNally, Delia School of Canada's Nirmala Nagarajan, lawyer Shane Sakhrani and musician Tony Lee.

The thought-provoking stories range from dark to funny, lyrical to magical; from football and supermodels to headless students and magic clocks under a dark bridge; from pains over leaving your country to losing a parent.

Proceeds will go to Friends Unlimited, a non-profit group that supports the underprivileged in Hong Kong. It provides educational tutoring, children's leisure activities, small business mentoring and other services.
