Two hundred primary school students took part in the 2006 Inter-School Easy Sport Dragon Dance Competition at the Lai Chi Kok Park Sports Centre last week.

A total of 13 dragon dance teams joined the contest, including boys and girls from Primary Five and Six.

The students' dragons were lighter than the traditional full-sized versions and their dances were shorter and accompanied by recorded instead of live music.

'The young dragon dancers displayed grace, vigour and discipline,' said Cherrie Cheung of the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, which co-organised the event with the Hong Kong Chinese Martial Arts Association.

STFA Wu Siu Kui Memorial Primary School (PM) won the champion title, and the first runner-up was KYT Excel Foundation Primary School. Yan Tak Catholic Primary School came third.

The LCSD's Easy Sport Scheme, launched in 2001, is aimed at making sports more accessible and enjoyable to primary school students by modifying games rules, skills and equipment.
