Teach English at a century-old institution

English teachers interested in promoting women's education in Hong Kong should apply for this position at a 100-year-old girls' school.

St Stephen's Girls' College is recruiting a native English teacher to support its various initiatives.

Assistant principal Margaret Chan said the school was looking for a well-rounded individual who had an outgoing personality.

The selected candidate will be required to carry out a variety of classroom duties such as secondary class instruction and assessment. In addition, the new teacher will also function as an English language resource for other teachers. There will also be many opportunities to plan and organise professional development activities for other English teachers.

The school does not restrict learning to the classroom. During the summer breaks, the teacher will lead study tours to English-speaking countries and occasionally accompany students on local educational visits.

Candidates should be creative and be able to handle teenagers.

'Showing resilience and an ability to work under pressure is important too,' Ms Chan said.

Applicants should be post-graduates with at least a year's experience in teaching English, preferably at the secondary level or higher. Having taught English as a second language or a background in drama will be an advantage.
