Suzuki has Lamborghini running scared
It was a road rage event of David and Goliath proportions when the driver of a lowly Suzuki hatchback decided to take on a late-model Lamborghini in a chase through rush-hour Sydney traffic.
Police said trouble flared when the driver of the yellow Italian sports car took exception to the booming music coming from the Suzuki Swift as the two cars drew alongside each other.
The driver of the Lamborghini, believed to have been a Gallardo model, cast a disapproving stare - and sparked an 8km slow-speed pursuit by the enraged Suzuki owner.
Although the Gallardo has a top speed of 309km/hour, police said the Swift (top speed 190km/h) was on the sports car's trail for more than half an hour through heavy traffic along Sydney's Parramatta Road, tailgating the vehicle and at one stage attempting to ram it.
The Lamborghini driver became so fearful for his safety that he eventually flagged down a police car.
Just as suddenly as the road rage had flared, the Suzuki driver disappeared down a side road.
Police said the Lamborghini driver was so shaken by the incident that he decided to park his A$450,000 ($2.5 million) set of wheels at the local police station and get a lift home in a patrol car. Police were still searching for the Suzuki and its driver yesterday.
One officer quoted in the local media suggested the Suzuki motorist might have had an inferiority complex and may have been enraged by the Lamborghini driver's response to the noise from the other car's stereo.
