Our English teacher recently played a video in class about Alex Fong Lik-sun, an Olympic swimmer turned singer.

I learned many things from watching how he achieved success.

Fong attributed his success to hard work, confidence, competitiveness and the support he received from his family and team members.

I think the most important factors that led to his success were hard work and confidence. His video inspired me to work hard in my exams. If I build up my confidence, I can be successful too.

Thanks for your letter, Shun-yan. Alex Fong makes an excellent role model.

In addition to his competing in the Sydney Olympics (2000) and launching his singing career (2001), he has also been in 10 feature films.

Anyone who can inspire someone to do their best and live their dreams is a valuable asset to our community.

Alex has done that many times over - I'm glad to hear you've found a local hero to look up to.
