How to be a happy camper

Spring Scream runs from March 31 to April 9, with the main events on the two weekends. The first weekend will have three stages, and the second - 'the big weekend' - will have five, with things slowing down to one or two stages mid-week.

There'll be hip-hop acts and electronica DJs in a dance-tent bamboo hut in the middle of the compound that will go late into the night.

Tickets can be bought online at www.spring scream.com. Ten-day passes cost NT$2,399 ($575) until March 30 or NT$3,000 at the door, and include camping passes. Single-day passes cost NT$1,500.

Hotel and motor- scooter rental prices in Kenting double (or more) during Spring Scream, and unless you're camping, you'll need to book ahead. It's tropical, but April is transitional so bring sun screen, a light jacket and waterproof gear.

The best way to get there from Hong Kong is to fly to Kaohsiung, where Kenting buses leave from the airport and train station, taking about 21/2 hours to get to the venue.
