Nearly half the prizes in the City Literary Award, a highlight of the City University literary festival, have been won by its own students. Writers could submit Chinese non-fiction prose, short stories or poetry on the theme 'Impression of a City' for the award, which was adjudicated by eight renowned writers.

croucher awards for scientists

Seven local scientists have been awarded research fellowships by the Croucher Foundation. The scholars include three researchers from Chinese University of Hong Kong: Professor Chow Hak-fun from the department of chemistry, Professor Huang Jie from the department of automation and computer-aided engineering, and Professor Dennis Lo Ming-luk from the department of chemical pathology. Artificial intelligence expert Lin Fangzhen, associate professor of computer science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology was also among the recipients of the awards. The fellowships are worth about US$100,000, and each winner also received a cash bonus of $40,000.
