Nearly half the prizes in the City Literary Award, a highlight of the City University literary festival, have been won by its own students. Writers could submit Chinese non-fiction prose, short stories or poetry on the theme 'Impression of a City' for the award, which was adjudicated by eight renowned writers.

Seven local scientists have been awarded research fellowships by the Croucher Foundation. The fellowships are worth about US$100,000, and each winner also received a cash bonus of $40,000.
