Special arrangements for officer's funeral

Donald Tsang

A service will be held tonight for Constable Tsang Kwok-hang at the Universal Funeral Parlour in Hunghom, followed by an official police funeral tomorrow.

His remains will be interred at Gallant Garden in Fanling, the official cemetery for public servants killed in the line of duty. Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen will attend the funeral to bid farewell to the 33-year-old beat officer.

Tsang was killed in the Tsim Sha Tsui shoot-out on March 17.

Special traffic arrangements will be made for tomorrow's service, including the closure of some roads near the funeral parlour. Cheong Hang Road will be closed at 8am to unauthorised vehicles, and metered parking on Cheong Hang Road and Winslow Street will be suspended in advance. Traffic will be diverted to Winslow Street.

Mourners should walk from Winslow Street to the funeral parlour.

No unauthorised vehicles will be allowed to enter China Travel Service Hip Kee Godown on Cheong Hang Road after 8.35am and none will be allowed to leave the parking area until the cortege has departed.

Tsang's colleague, Sin Ka-keung, 28, who was injured in the shoot-out with off-duty officer Tsui Po-ko, is in stable condition in Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

Tsang was shot dead by Tsui's pistol, which was stolen from and killed constable Leung Shing-yan in 2001. The gun was also used in a 2001 bank robbery in which a security guard was killed. Police have said they have sufficient evidence to prosecute Tsui, if he were alive, for the shoot-out, Leung's murder and the bank killing.
