Shangri-La Asia earnings rise 33pc

Updated at 7.10pm: Asia's largest luxury hotel group Shangri-La Asia reported a 33 per cent growth in profit for the 12 months to December 31 last year.

Net profit last year rose to US$150.9 million (HK$1.18 billion), up 33 per cent compared with US$113.52 million in 2004.

Turnover climbed to US$842 million from US$752.52 million during the period.

The Hong Kong-based hotel chain announced a final dividend of 10 HK cents for last year, the same as for 2004.

In addition to hotels, Shangri-La Asia leases office, commercial, residential and exhibition hall space.

Shangri-La Asia is controlled by Robert Kuok's company the Kerry Group, which is also the largest shareholder in the SCMP Group, which publishes SCMP.com.
