Sailor achieves two targets in record bid
ROUND-THE-WORLD record holder Ellen MacArthur has achieved two of the target times after the first three legs of the Asian Record Circuit.
The British sailor and her four crew members on trimaran B&Q are currently in Qingdao , Shandong province, preparing for the fourth leg to Shanghai on Sunday. They finished the 265-nautical-mile Dalian -to-Qingdao leg on Wednesday in 24 hours, two minutes and 53 seconds - almost 10 hours faster than their target time.
'I was looking forward to visiting Qingdao, particularly due to its sailing connections. It's great to see the facilities which will be available for the 2008 Beijing Olympics,' said MacArthur on arrival at the Qingdao Olympic Marina.
The Asian Record Circuit kicked off on March 25, with MacArthur and her crew aiming to set 12 new records in 10 legs. Yet they failed to meet the target time of the first leg - from Yokohama, Japan, to Jeju Island, South Korea. However, things went well during the second leg from Jeju to Dalian as they were 14 hours ahead of their target time.
B&Q is expected to arrive in Hong Kong after the sixth leg on April 23.
