Join the fitness team of a premier club
The American Club is looking to hire an entire team of fitness experts, including a fitness centre supervisor, senior fitness instructor and fitness instructors.
Established in 1925, it is one of Hong Kong's premier private clubs and the only member-owned club in the city. The club owns town and country clubhouses in Central and Tai Tam.
The club has a diverse international membership of about 2,700 people and offers a distinctly American atmosphere.
In addition to its clubhouses, the American Club has reciprocal relationships with more than 80 clubs worldwide.
It has built state-of-the-art fitness centres in both locations, for which it is looking for staff.
Selected candidates will perform a wide range of duties, which include running gym operations, maintaining a superior level of safety and service quality, educating members in fitness and providing personal training services.
'We want people who are passionate about the industry and can encourage fitness and well-being,' said Bryan Hoare, director of fitness and recreation for the club.
The ideal candidates will be certified personal trainers with a university degree or higher level diploma. They will have between one year and three years of personal training experience, and at least a year of supervisory experience for the senior roles.
Candidates from a fitness or personal training background will have an edge. Experience in the hospitality industry will be an asset.
According to Mr Hoare, recent graduates with fitness-related work experience will fit the bill.
The club will give preference to attitude over experience.
'For the right people, we will help develop supervisory knowledge and business intelligence. We are looking for people who can walk the talk and are able to demonstrate results. Whether or not they have significant experience, we want people who shine,' Mr Hoare said.
Candidates should be reliable, responsible and unafraid of making mistakes. Quick learners with an ability to rise to any challenge and work in a multi-ethnic environment will do well in these positions.
The jobs require people who have outgoing personalities and good interpersonal skills.
Each role offers career development opportunities. For instance, a successful candidate might become a master trainer in future, or specialise in recreation and children's or adult activities.
Mr Hoare emphasised that staff were considered fundamental to the success of the club.
'We want to recruit people who will add to our diversity, who truly believe in themselves and will create great results in everything they do,' he said.
