director's mother leaps to her death in Kowloon

The 77-year-old mother of Vincent Kok Tak-chiu, who has directed Jackie Chan and Stephen Chow Sing-chi, leapt to her death at La Salle College in Kowloon Tong. She was found lying unconscious next to the school's football pitch and was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where she was certified dead. Witnesses said they saw the woman climbing over the railing of the second floor. Her daughter told police her mother had been suffering from an illness.

Appeal over rulings on spiderman, horse stunts

Expatriate activist Matt Pearce is appealing against a 21-day jail sentence for causing an obstruction in Queen's Road, Central, by scaling a giant video screen in a Spiderman outfit. He is also appealing against two suspended sentences he received for running onto the race track at Sha Tin dressed as a pantomime horse. He is on bail pending the appeals. Philip Dykes SC, for Pearce, told the Court of First Instance yesterday that the convictions were unjust because his client had not caused any injury or general affront to the public through his actions. Madam Justice Claire-Marie Beeson adjourned the case until Tuesday.

suspected drink-driver injures police in scuffle

Three police officers were slightly injured in a scuffle with a suspected drink-driver in Kowloon Tong. The scuffle broke out at about 5am after police intercepted a goods van in Waterloo Road for a traffic offence, and the 22-year-old driver was asked to take a breathalyser test. The driver allegedly refused and struggled with the three officers, but was subdued. Police said the suspect later submitted to a breathalyser test, which he failed. The man was arrested for assaulting police officers and driving under the influence of alcohol, and was held for questioning. The three injured constables were treated at Queen Elizabeth Hospital and discharged.

three face court over boxing day murder

Three men, aged 17 to 19, will appear in Tuen Mun Court this morning to face a joint count of murder. They were arrested in Yuen Long in the past two days in connection with the death of food delivery worker Law Hing-lun, 18, who was attacked inside a park on Sai Ching Street on Boxing Day last year.
