Man 'decapitated wife and daughter'

Zhuhai suspect allegedly ate eyes and flesh with tea

The authorities in Zhuhai have arrested a man on suspicion of decapitating his wife and daughter, and then eating their eyeballs and flesh.

The Zhuhai Daily reported at the weekend that a 45-year-old man surnamed Gao allegedly killed his wife, surnamed Yang, at their home at about 10pm on April 3 after she refused to have sex with him and told him she wanted a divorce and a share of his assets.

'Gao was very angry, thinking his wife wanted to take away his assets,' the report said.

'Yang had also been complaining that Gao had not been a good husband for a long period of time.'

The newspaper reported that Gao hit his wife on the head with an ashtray and she then passed out. He then allegedly strangled her with the cable of a hair dryer, dragged her body to the bathroom and chopped her head off.

The report also said Gao allegedly killed his 10-year-old daughter afterwards by strangling her while she was asleep in her bedroom. He then also allegedly decapitated her in the bathroom.

The report said that after killing his wife and daughter, Gao removed their eyeballs, cut off some of their flesh and swallowed this with tea. He then moved the bodies to the living room and washed the bloodstains off his body and the bathroom.

A friend of Gao's learned of the alleged murders and made a report to police after he visited Gao at home the following day, hoping to go for tea with him.

The report said the Zhuhai authorities arrested Gao last Wednesday and later charged him with murder.

The newspaper said Gao had served a jail sentence between 1983 and 1993 for robbery. He married Yang in 1995 and their daughter was born in December that year. The family made a living by renting out homes.

Investigations are continuing.
