The armadillo has up to 104 teeth, more than any other land animal, but the dolphin has the most - about 200. The snail, which has a mouth no larger than a pin head, has about 25,000 teeth.

Sharks have at least 40 sets of teeth - about 20,000.

The most expensive tooth belonged to Isaac Newton, according to Guinness World Records. It was sold in 1816 for GBP750 - equal to $25,000 today. The nobleman who bought it set it in a ring.

In January this year 10,800 Filipino children brushed their teeth simultaneously to break the world record for the most people brushing at the same time. The previous record was set by 10,240 Chinese children in 2003.

Alexander Stone holds the Guinness World Record for the youngest person with false teeth. He was four years and 301 days old when his dentist fitted dentures to replace his teeth that were discoloured and weakened by a hereditary condition.

Canadian schoolboy Mark Henry claims to hold the record for the largest human tooth - an incisor 2.28cm long and 1.2cm wide. Dentists, who nicknamed it the 'monster tooth', could not give an explanation, because the rest of Mark's teeth were of a normal size.
