Zapcats have boomed in popularity in Hong Kong in recent years, offering high-speed thrills for a fraction of the price of buying and mooring a speedboat.

The state-of-the-art inflatable dinghies were invented by South Africans in the 1980s for river racing, but have since drawn a following among boating enthusiasts worldwide, particularly in New Zealand and Australia.

They are now increasingly popular among water-sports fans in Hong Kong, where they are marketed on one website as being 'seriously fast, reaching speeds of up to 60 miles per hour'.
